Eureka Open to the Public

A few weeks ago, we got the word that the ferryboat Eureka is now open to the public again. For members of the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights, this means we have easy access to our Model Shop once again. It’s been many months that we haven’t had use of the shop, but now all is back to normal once again.

As a result, the next meeting of the shipwrights will be aboard the Eureka on Saturday, September 20th at 9:30 am.

Meeting Notes Now Online

For all Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights members and those interested in the goings on at our meetings, the monthly meeting notes are now available in PDF form online. Simply go to the new Meeting Notes page by click in the menu bar above. The page lists meeting notes as far back as I’ve recorded them.

Feel free to download and read any or all of them. Print one off and share it with your fellow ship modelers if you think they might be interested. If you’re in the area and think you might like a closer look at what we do, we welcome guests to our meeting and, of course, new members.

Correction… Don’t Eat, Meet!

No, that’s not to say “don’t eat meat.”

Looks like the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights’ annual barbecue will have to wait for another time due to scheduling conflicts. So, there will be no annual barbecue on Saturday, August 9th, after all.

The good news is that this means that we will have an August meeting after all. Likely location of the meeting will again be in the conference room under the bleachers by the Bath House. Meeting starts at 9:30am. Don’t be late, because the doors have to remain locked, and once we start our meeting they will be closed and we’ll be out of earshot of any knocking.

Among other things of importance, we’ll be discussing the date of the rescheduled barbecue. So, be there and bring your projects!

Don’t Meet – Eat!

There will be no regular meeting of the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights in August due to the annual club barbecue. The member’s-only event will take place at Paul Reck’s home on Saturday, August 9th.

The next regular meeting will be on Saturday, September 20th, at 9:30am. Location TBA depending on the status of the repairs to the Eureka.

Hail to the Chief

At the June meeting of the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights, the club made a big change to its organization and agreed it should have an official club president. The club’s de-facto leader has for years been member Paul Reck, but at the June meeting, that was made official with the nomination and election of Mr. Reck to the post of Club President.

Nothing really changes at this point, except that we as a group have officially recognized Paul’s role. Member Leo Kane will continue to continue to moderate our monthly meetings.

May ’14 Ship Modeler’s Meeting Canceled

HSP-MS Logo

Due to the temporary closure of the Eureka, the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights meeting was scheduled to meet in a conference room located under the bleachers, next to the Bathhouse building. But it seems that this is one of those busy months where everyone has commitments every which way, so there will be no May meeting. The June meeting will take place as scheduled on Saturday, June 21st, at 9:30pm under the bleachers (sounds so clandestine). Hopefully, the group will be back home aboard the Eureka some time in August, when repairs are scheduled to be complete.

Brand New Blog Site Under Construction

Hello to any visitors who arrive here wondering where the content is!

Well, I just started constructing this blog for the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights and, honestly, they don’t even know about it yet. So, please be patient.

Last week I was on the phone with our lead volunteer and de facto president Paul Reck. We were discussing the membership roster which nobody seems to be currently maintaining since our organization is primarily lacking… well, organization. I suggested that maybe we just need to put together a blog site to make people aware of our group and to promote ship modeling. Plus, we can use it as a central location to post important internal information. He suggested I put something together and present it to the club. The result is what you see here.

Clearly, this is not a complete site, but the structure is now in place. I’ll populate it will a small amount of content to get started and we’ll see what the club members think. If people like it, we’ll start using it and hopefully it will help us get organized.
